NeighborWorks Blackhawk Region has been providing homebuying workshops since its founding in 1979. The homebuyer education program is designed to promote long term homeownership by providing ongoing training and counseling. Our philosophy is to help you become mortgage-ready regardless of where you are in the home buying process.
The workshop will cover a variety of topics, including how to work through the purchase process from application to closing, rebuild credit, reduce debt, determine affordability, become mortgage-ready and much more. It is like getting a Ph.D. in homeownership!

Please contact us to start the registration process. A one-on-one appointment must also be scheduled, to take a look at where you are in the home buying process, answer your questions, create an action plan and budget, and review down payment assistant programs and costs. The cost for the workshop is $50 per household, which includes the book Realizing the American Dream, lunch and materials.

If you would like to take an online workshop:
Visit eHome America and register. Upon completion of the eHome course we will schedule an appointment to review what you have learned, answer any questions, review down payment assistant programs and costs, and create an action plan and budget. The cost for the online course is $100.
Appointments can be in person or by phone. If your appointment is by phone, you will need to provide the following at least an hour prior to your appointment:
- Completed intake form & disclosures (download below)
- Verification of income – most recent months pay stubs, benefit letters, or profit and loss statements
- Picture I.D
- If available, credit report or lenders credit score disclosure; if needed, one can be ordered for you at our cost
After completing the home buying education and appointment a certificate of completion will be issued to your lender upon request. Certificates can be used for various down payment assistance programs; additional fees may apply and will be invoiced with the certificate.
